Good for the bird? Good for the herd.
LPCI’s conservation approach recognizes and addresses the mutually beneficial goals of LPCI partners and agricultural producers. We offer financial and technical support to willing landowners to plan and implement practices designed to help lesser prairie-chickens and enhance agricultural operations.
LPCI works with each enrolled producer to prepare a prescribed grazing plan that improves habitat for lesser prairie-chickens and meets the producer’s long-range goals. Critical to this planning process are drought management strategies that protect rangeland vegetation against the recurring droughts of the southern Great Plains. Supporting practices such as woody plant removal, water development, and prescribed fire may also be part of the conservation plan.
